DON RIO is a very gentle gelding. He has 3 nice gaits and is very flashy.
He has been professionally started under saddle and is very easy going.
He is a half brother to JULIA and LE RIO.
JULIA has been showing very successfully, in the jumpers on the A circuit locally, as well as down in HITS Ocala, Florida.
DON RIO scored 7.2 total, with 7.2 for both type and movement at the "Rheinland-Pfalz-Saar International" (RPSI) inspection.
His sire DON CAMILLO is a majestic older imported gentleman, he had a distinguished carrier in the dressage ring. His sire is the famous DON CARLOS the founder of the mainly jumping D line. He is the sire of the Celle state owned stallions DAKAR, DON JUAN, DON PEDRO and DROSSELKLANG I and II. His best known progeny are DANIELA, she finished 3rd at the European Championship of young riders in 1987 ridden by U. Kirchhoff and DIAVOLO 4 who competed very successfully under P. Schmitz in National and International show jumping competitions. This line has a very large family that is extremely successful and highly respected in breeding terms. Thomas Fuches' DOLLAR GIRL by DYNAMO is rated as one of the 1990's best show jumpers. She originally competed for Switzerland, but now is ridden by Nick Skelton for Great Britain. Also, very well known is the mare DIVA that was competing under Jay Hays for Canada and was a member of the Canadian Olympic team in Sydney, Australia On his dam's side he goes back to WEDEKIND one of the three most popular stallions of the W line. WENDEKREIS, WEDEKIND and WINNETOU, this line is remarkable for its jumping ability that can be traced through out each generation. WEDEKIND sired the stallion WELTMEISTER who became one of the most popular stallions in Oldenburg, he produced 34 approved stallions and 56 states premium mares. A couple of his most famous offspring are WALZERTAKT ridden by R. Dover, USA dressage and WARUM ridden by G. Wiltfang in jumping.
His dam OSTARA is a very elegant that has shown tremendous talent over fences. Her sire ROBINSON has had a very colourful career. As a young stallion in Germany, he was sold to Italy where he competed successfully as a show jumper. After returning to Germany, he was purchased by Marina Genn and imported to the USA where he started a career in dressage before coming to Canada to stand at stud. ROBINSON comes from the most successful Westfalen bloodlines in the sport today. His sire, ROMANDOUR II, hardly needs an introduction. He sired such stallions as REINGOLD, the champion stallion in 1976, and ROMANOW, the champion stallion in 1978. Like his father, REINGOLD also produced ROLLS ROYCE, the champion stallion of his year. ROMANDOUR II also sired ROSENKAVALIER, RHEINBLICK, RENOIR I and RAPALLO, the foundation and most sought after stallions today. The most famous offspring must be REMBRANDT who, under Nicol Uphoff, was European champion in 1986, Olympic gold medalist in 1988 and world champion in 1990 with the highest points ever. ROMANDOUR II still has the highest dressage index to date. On his mother's side, ROBINSON goes back to the great one, GRANDE. Beside GUTE SITTE, an Olympic bronze medalist, and GALAPAHOS, a bronze and team gold medalist at the European dressage championship, GRANDE was also represented at the 1976 Olympics by 3 of his offspring in the jumper ring, one competing for Holland, one for Belgium and one for the USA. Still today, breeders of sport horses speak of him with the greatest respect. Her dam RENATE combines jumping blood at it's best. She is a pretty, flashy mare that will pass for a hunter as well as a jumper. She shows extraordinary talent in free jumping. Her sire RIO GRANDE, ridden by Eric Lamanze, has made a great impact on breeding in Canada. He goes back to stallion RAMIRO Z one of the most successful jumping horses on the International scene, when ridden by Fritz Ligges. His progeny include DONAU ridden by Thomas Fruehmann, RAMIRO'S GIRL and RODNEY ridden by Fritz Ligges, also RATINA Z ridden by L. Beerbaum and VISA RINNETOU Z ridden by Piet Raymakers for Holland.
